Four director appointments at The Book People

The Book People, which has built a reputation as one of the nation’s favourite booksellers, is delighted to announce the appointment of four new directors.  William Wellesley, Simon Mason, Ajay Patel and Scott Scott will join Seni Glaister on the Board with effect from 1 July 2015.

The appointments follow on from the successful initiation of a transformation process to drive out significant cost savings and efficiency gains required to stabilise the business.

William Wellesley, who joins as CEO of the business, previously worked as Managing Director at Molton Brown, prior to its sale to Kao Corporation and as Group Chief Operating Officer of GEMS Education, the world’s largest schools group. William has a strong track record of maximising the potential of businesses in terms of profitability and growth.

Simon Mason, Chief Operating Officer, previously worked at Endless LLP and was significantly involved in the acquisition of the business by Endless in September 2014. Simon brings many years of restructuring and operational improvement experience and will be working closely with the management team and Endless to deliver a successful transformation of the business.

Ajay Patel, Chief Financial Officer, joins the business from Buyagift.com and previously spent 14 years at Tesco. Ajay has extensive financial experience in the retail sector and will be responsible for leading the finance function.

Scott Scott will be promoted to Digital Director. Having been with the business for 22 years, Scott has overseen the rapid growth of the e-commerce channel, which now represents around half of total revenue. Scott and his team will continue to develop the multi-channel operations of The Book People.

William Wellesley commented

“It is a great honour to be appointed CEO of The Book People. I am hugely excited both by the potential opportunity and the chance to work with the great team at The Book People. Seni has done a fantastic job in leading the business to its current position and I look forward to building on these foundations, with her continued input.”
